From May 27-29, 2013, the diocese of Malaybalay held its first diocesan BEC Congress in San Isidro College in Malaybalay City. Over 300 delegates from the various parishes attended the event.
The congress started in the afternoon of May 27 with a bible-enthronement at 1:30 pm. A program orientation followed. After the merienda break, the delegates huddled by deanery to share their experiences of living in communion as BECs. This was followed with a reporting. At 6 pm, the Eucharist was celebrated with Fr. Felix Abadiez presiding and concelebrated by parish priests. Also present were Bishop Jose Cabantan – the bishop of Malaybalay- and Fr. Amado Picardal, CSsR representing the CBCP-BEC Committee. After dinner, the delegates were treated to a performance by a live band composed of priests, organized by Fr. Senio Rubio.
The following day, the delegates had bible-sharing sesssion by parishes. After breakfast, the delegates listened to a 90 minutes talk by Fr. Picardal on the theme: “Growing in Faith in BECs.” This was followed by an open forum which lasted for an hour. In the afternoon, after lunch break, the delegates were once again divided by deanery for group-sharing. The reporting followed. The Eucharist was celebrated at 6 pm followed by dinner. The rest of the evening was spent in social-cultural presentation – with each deanery presentating a number.
On the last day, the delegates broke up by parishes for planning. This was followed by reporting. Bishop Jose Cabantan gave a talk and presided at the closing Eucharist. After a festive meal the delegates were on their way home.
