CBCP Approves National BEC Assembly as Official Celebration of 50 Years of Vatican II

On July 11, 2015, during its 111th plenary assembly, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines approved the proposal that the forthcoming 3rd BEC National Assembly be the official celebration of the Philippine Church of the 50th anniversary of the culmination of Vatican II. The CBCP also declared the National Assembly to be one of the culminating activities of the Year of the Poor.

The National Assembly is organized by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Committee on Basic Ecclesial Communities and hosted the archdiocese of Manila and its suffragan dioceses – Antipolo, Novaliches, Cubao, Kalookan, Pasig, Paranaque, Imus and Malolos. These will shoulder the expenses for food during the plenary assemblies.

Each diocese is allotted a maximum of 15 delegates. The delegates will be accommodated in foster parishes with BECs in the dioceses in the National Capital Region. Religious congregations active in promoting BECs are allotted 2 official observers each but they will have to take care of their accommodation. Each delegate and official observer are requested P100 (one hundred pesos) donation. Deadline for the submission of the list of diocesan delegates is on Aug. 31, 2015.

The opening liturgy and session will be held at the Paco Church (San Fernando de Dilao parish, Paco, Manila) on November 11, 2015. The plenary sessions on November 12-13 will be held at the Paco Catholic School Auditorium. The culminating activities will be held at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay City on November 14 which will be open to all members of the BECs, clergy and religious in Metro-Manila.
