On October 14-16, 2014 over 150 delegates coming from 18 dioceses in Visayas led by their respective bishops gathered in Dumaguete for their 9th Regional Pastoral Assembly. This gathering was organized by a committee from the archdiocese of Cebu led  Archbishop Jose Palma and hosted by the diocese of Dumaguete led by Bishop Lito Cortes. There were three parts: 1) assessment on the pastoral priorities of the dioceses 2) talks/in-puts 3) planning. Among the top priorities of the dioceses is the building of BECs – making the parishes as a communion of communities. There were three main speakers: Archbishop Jose Palma on “The International Eucharistic Congress and New Evangelization”, Bishop Crispin Varquez on “New Financial System and Standard Living Allowance” and Fr. Amado L. Picardal, CSsR on “BECs: Lay Formation and Stewardship.”
