On June 14, 2014, the Archdiocese of Manila held the 21st Pentecost BEC General Assembly at Joy Center Don Bosco Technical School in Makati City. The program started at 7:30 a.m.-12:00n.n. This was the flow of the celebration: registration, preliminaries, Philippine National Anthem, Opening Prayer, Welcome Remarks, Vicariate Roll Call, Intermission Numbers, Break, Inspirational Talk and Holy Mass. The theme of the gathering: “BEC, Mga Munting Simbahan sa Kapitbahayan, Patuloy na Pinalalakas at Pinasisigla ng Pakikinig at Pagsasabuhay ng Mabuting Balita ng Panginoon”. 293 BEC leaders from 12 vicariates in the Archdiocese of Manila attended the general assembly. The main celebrant in the Holy Mass was Fr. Vic Apacible and concelebrated by Fr. Benjie Ledesma and Fr. Zaldy Composo, FDCC. This event was organized by the Ministry on BEC Formation and Promotion of the archdiocese of Manila.
The General Assembly of BECs in Manila is being held twice a year, during Advent and Pentecost. In Advent, the program is usually whole day activity because the BEC Christmas party is incorporated in the program. In Pentecost, the program is only half day. The Mobilization and Organizing Committee agreed on the theme: “ Ang mga BEC, pinalalakas at pinatatatag ng pakikinig at pagsasabuhay ng Mabuting Balita” because they uphold the principle of BEC; i.e. Sharing the Word of God as the fundamental way of life of BECs. Bible reflection and sharing the words of God enlightened their daily lives. It deepened the level of understanding on BEC in the spirit of communion and eventually they become the light, the leaven and the salt in the Basic Ecclesial Communities.
Fr. Jason H. Laguerta, Parish Priest of Holy Cross & Vicariate BEC Priest Coordinator was the main speaker, summarized his inspirational talk on the four characteristics of the Holy Trinity; i.e. Small, Relationship, Love and Care for one another.
We have mission to spread the word of God- hear His word, reflect and share. We become an inspiration if God is within us! (JFV)
