Northern Luzon BEC Exchange Held in Dagupan

From February 27 to March 1, 2014, 152 BEC promoters and leaders from various dioceses of Northern Luzon gathered at the Lay Formation Center in Dagupan for their regional BEC Exchange (assembly). The following dioceses were represented: Alaminos, Lingayen-Dagupan, Urdaneta, San Fernando (La Union), Nueva Segovia, Baguio, Bontok-Lagawe, Tabuk, Tuguegarao, Ilagan, Bayombong, San Jose (Nueve Ecija),

The opening liturgy was celebrated at 3:30 pm at the St. John  Cathedral in Dagupan City, presided by Bishop Rodolfo Beltran (bishop of San Fernando, La Union). Immediately after the Mass, the delegates were brought to their respective host parishes/BECs where they joined the rosary/bible-sharing sessions of the local communities and followed by dinner/socials. The host BECs provided them with sleeping accomodation.

The following morning after breakfast and morning prayer, the delegates gathered at the Lay Formation Center for the Eucharist (presided by Bishop Roberto Mallari of the diocese of San Jose, Nueva Ecija). After the Mass and merienda, they broke into small groups for sharing regarding their significant learning from the host BECs. The plenary session was held at 11:15 where the big-group sharing and deepening was done.

There were two speakers in the afternoon: 1:15 pm – Mr. Joey Clemente (director of Socio-Pastoral Institute) who gave a talk on “BEC and the Spirituality of Stewardship” and at 3 pm – Fr. Amado L. Picardal, CSsR (CBCP-BEC Committee Executive Secretary) who gave a talk on “The National BEC Profile.”

At 4 pm, the planning session was held by each diocese. This was followed by a plenum.

At 6:30 pm after Evening Prayer, the delegates had the outdoor  barrio fiesta and cultural presentations. Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas gave a brief speech before dinner.

After breakfast the following day, the delegates departed for their pilgrimage to our Lady of Manaoag shrine where they celebrated the closing liturgy, presided by Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
